|Late Rally Falls Short For Thunder|
Posting Date: August 10 2011
TRENTON – Trailing 6-1 in the eighth inning, the Trenton Thunder scored the game’s final four runs but fell to the Binghamton Mets 6-5 Tuesday night at Waterfront Park. The struggling Thunder dropped their sixth of their last seven games, and continued their inconsistent play of the last two months.
Binghamton (48-68) jumped on Thunder starter Graham Stoneburner (1-2, 2.86) on a three-run double off the bat of Michael Fisher in the top of the first inning. Starter Collin McHugh (5-2, 3.61) held the Thunder scoreless until the fifth inning, when Jose Gil scored on an Austin Krum grounder.
After Michael Fisher led off the sixth inning with a single, Raul Reyes smashed a home run to center field for a 5-1 Binghamton lead. Binghamton scored the winning run in the seventh inning when Michael fisher doubled home Reese Havens.
Rob Lyerly ignited a late Thunder push with his fourth home run on the year, a three-run blast to right that scored Jose Pirela and Corban Joseph. Damon Sublett led off the final inning with a triple and Jose Gil setting the Thunder up with two men on base and no outs. A nice move by pitcher Josh Stinson picked Gil off at first, before inducing an Addison Maruszak flyout. With Sublett on third, Stinson uncorked a wild pitch that closed the gap to 6-5.
The Thunder take on the Binghamton Mets Wednesday at 7:05 PM at Waterfront Park. Ten-game winner Shaeffer Hall (10-5, 4.23) takes the mound against righty Matt Harvey (1-3, 4.93). Tune-in to the game online at trentonthunder.com.
