PLAINFIELD – The Plainfield Cardinals packed the Rico Parenti Gymnasium as host of the Planet Athlete Holiday International Showcase Thursday night. Senior Sekou Harris led a balanced Cardinal attack in a 72-56 win over the McKee Staten Island Tech (MSIT) Seagulls in a game of runs before the Cardinals pulled away.

Harris (20 points) paced Plainfield’s (3-1) early attack with bombs in the opening period as Jahmal Lane blanketed McKee’s (8-5) top scorer senior Osa Slayton Izevbuw. Lane blocked three blocks in the period as the Cardinals raced out to a 22-6 lead.

Slayton Izevbuw got loose in the second period with nine points during a 12-0 Mckee run that cut Plainfield’s lead to single digits. Plainfield answered with a 6-0 run after a timeout before Izevbuw (23 points)

connected on a 74-foot shot before the half.

Mckee opened the second half with a 7-0 spurt and closed the gap to four points before Plainfield spread the ball and clamped down on defense and put the game out of reach with a defining 12-0 run. During the 4:14 stretch, Plainfield held Mckee scoreless while five different Cardinals registered points. Edward Anderson led the way with six points and Justin Sears punctuated the run with a two-handed slam.

Izevbuw scored eight points in the final period but it wasn’t enough as Dii ‘Jon Allen-Jordan controlled the boards (12 rebounds) in the final minutes as Plainfield coasted to victory.
